200L LASU Philosophy Student Maria Soniregun Inaugurated As 5th Speaker Lagos State Youth Paiament, Visits VC

Maria Itunu *Soniregun*, a 200-level student of the Department of Philosophy, Faculty of Arts, Lagos State University, has been inaugurated as the 5th Speaker of the Lagos State Youth Parliament.

Soniregun, who emerged as the first female speaker and youngest individual to occupy the position, on Monday, 11th March 2024, paid a courtesy visit to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM at her office, where she was received by Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic, Prof. Olufunsho Omobitan.

She expressed her excitement at the opportunity to serve the State in the capacity of speaker and attributed her feat to the solid foundation and mentorship provided by the university and her lecturers. She praised the university management for creating an enabling environment for young leaders like her to grow.

Director of, the Directorate of Special Interventions and professor in the Department of Philosophy, Prof. Oseni Taiwo Afisi, who facilitated the students’ visit, corroborated Soniregun’s assertion that the university is training her students for leadership. He noted the speaker was representing the university, and as such, it was a thing of joy and pride for the institution.

Prof. Omobitan, in his remarks, congratulated Soniregun on behalf of the VC. He expressed his happiness at her emergence and urged her to be a good Ambassador of the university. He prayed that the Lord would help her succeed in the enormous responsibility of the office.

Dr. Lateef Sekoni, Deputy Registrar, VCO, and Dr. Lateef Salami, Special Assistant to the VC, were also on the ground to receive the Speaker and her entourage.
