Pastor Adeboye, First Civilian Governor of Ekiti, Others To Bag EKSU Honorary Doctoral

The Vice Chancellor of the Ekiti State University, EKSU, Prof. Edward Olanipekun, has disclosed that some eminent Nigerians  would bag the institution’s honorary Doctorate at the 28th Convocation ceremonies.

Addressing journalists at the 28th Convocation Press Conference,  VC listed the awardees as the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor E.A Adeboye, the first civilian governor of Ekiti State Otunba Adeniyi Adebayo, former secretary of health,  Prince Julius Adeluyi, and Princess Folorunsho Alakija.

He disclosed that the university will be convoking a total of 91 First Class graduates and several other second-class graduates, adding that the University is known for its academic excellence as five of its Law graduates bagged First Class at the 2024 call to bar examinations.

has said nine staff involved in various acts of misconduct in the institution have been dismissed.

Prof. Olanipekun added that 10 appointments were terminated, 5 persons each were warned and pardoned while 3 staff earned suspension.

He also said 12 students were expelled, 30 suspended, 6 warned, and 7  exonerated while 3 cases were stepped down, saying the cases were decided from September 2019 to date.

According to the Vice Chancellor, a total of  91 graduates had  first class degrees, from  a total of 10,894 graduates, which includes 10,515 first degrees graduates, Ph.D 73, Masters 81, PGD 1.

Prof. Olanipekun added that 58 brand new medical doctors were inducted into the medical profession on February 8th this year by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, MDCN.

Prof. Olanipekun, who will be leaving office in August, listed his achievements to include approval of 16  new academic programmes including BSc Mass Communication, BSc International Relations, Ph.D Surgery,  Ph.D Medicine, and others.

He  commended the Federal Government for the various intervention funds released to the university such as TETFund and NEEDS Assessment funds which has been impactful in transforming the campus leading to the completion of 12 TETFund sponsored projects, 10 Needs Assessment sponsored projects among others.

“Credit must be given to these good ambassadors of ours and their teachers for doing the university proud.” He stated.

The Convocation ceremony is slated to be held on the 3rd and 4th of April 2024.
