The Vice-Chancellor, University of Lagos (UNILAG), Prof. Folasade Ogunsola recently received the 59th President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Dr. Innocent Okwuosa and his entourage on the 10th floor of the Senate House.
The visit was part of the ICAN President’s visit to the Lagos Mainland & District Society (LMDS) of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).
Representing the Vice-Chancellor, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development Services), Prof. Ayodele Atsenuwa welcomed the team to the University.
She disclosed that the Faculty, where the Accounting Department is domiciled, was one of the founding faculties of the University.
Professor Atsenuwa appreciated the Institute for recognizing its members in the University and its interaction with students and staff of UNILAG.
She requested feedback from the Institute on areas the University could improve upon.
Prof. Atsenuwa expressed hopes for a greater cordial relationship with the organisation and affirmed UNILAG’s openness to industry collaborations and requested that the institute collaborates with the University by commissioning research and/or endowing chairs, which grow scholarship and contextual knowledge in the University.
Dr. Okwuosa, in his brief address, mentioned that the Association has a large number of members from the University of Lagos and extolled the virtues of the Head of Accounting Department, UNILAG, Prof. Gabriel Otusanya as a great resource person to the Association and spoke about the history of the Institute and its achievements thus far.
He also mentioned some of the perks of being a member of the Association, especially as a student or academic.
He promised that the professional body would look into commissioning research at UNILAG.
The meeting had in attendance several executives and members of the Institute; Directors from the Bursary Unit of the University including Mrs. Yetunde Situ and Mr. Robert Ezimoha; as well as members of the Nigerian Universities Accounting Students Association (UNILAG Chapter).
After the visit, the President and his entourage proceeded to Afe Babalola Hall for an interactive session with students of the University.
