Kebbi State branch chairman of National association of Nigerian nurses and midwives (NANNM),Comrade Kelani Abdul waliyu has commended the Kebbi State government’s resolve to close renumeration gap between nurses in the state and those in tertiary health facilities in the state.
Waliyu, spoke on the sidelines on Wednesday at the symbolic may day celebrations held in Birnin Kebbi, Haliru Abdu stadium.
He added that part of the efforts to reposition health sector in Kebbi began with the payment of backlog of students nurses and automatic employment for nurses and midwives in the state to encourage them to pay attention to their studies.
Speaking further, the unionist said that over the years, trained and experienced nurses and midwives have left the state service for greener pastures creating more man power problems since already nurses and midwives are in short supply.
“We are excited because the government have agreed to close renumeration gap to half brain drain which is inimical to proper and adequate healthcare delivery in the state.
He appealed to the Governor to fully implement the nurses salaries structure approved nationally as well as expansion of hospitals which is ongoing and life insurance cover for nurses and midwives that are exposed to danger as they discharge their official duties.
He commended the national headquarters of NANNM for their moral support and encouragement and urge nurses and midwives to remain steadfast and dedicated to their duties of saving lives and for care for the patients.
