Three brothers said to be members of John’s family have attacked and beat their younger brother’s English language teacher at the Silver Bird International School in Agip Mile 4 area, Rumueme community, Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State on Monday.

They young men who invaded the secondary school in the early hours of Monday in company of their mother, claimed that the teacher had flogged their brother inappropriately.

The young men in their onslaught accosted their sibling’s English teacher, identified as Sonia Amadi within the school premises and assaulted her mercilessly, before heading to the school’s administrative officer’s office to also attack her.

Daily Independent gathered that the rampaging youths upon reaching the administrative officer, Joy Ajayi, threatened to stab her with a scissors, while other parents at the school intervened, desuading the angry men from making good their threats.

Narrating what transpired to our correspondent, Joy Ajayi said, “This morning I was in my office when a group of boys, three boys matched into my office locked my office door and said they wanted to flog me, one of them had even picked up a stick and was ready to flog me, the other one carried the scissors that we usually used in school and threatened that he would to stab me with it, screaming why must we flog their brother in this school.

“All the teachers came out saying that there is no need for them to take this thing to that extent, but the boys refused to open the door.

“There was a parent inside here with me, we were resolving an issue. So the parent started begging them that they should calm down. They were here for more than 15 to 20 minutes, my teachers were outside trying to get inside but my teachers could not get inside.

“They were saying they will flog me and that we should go and call the Police, we should go and call lawyer. I now said I have a right to defend myself, let them allow me to defend myself,” she added.

Ajayi further stated that in the midst of the pandemonium, the father of the angry men came in and ordered them to retreat, , adding that he would return later.

She disclosed that before the irate youths attacked her in her office, they had already attacked and beaten up one of her teachers.

“As I was talking, that is when their father now came and said they should open the door, before they opened the door,The father now said he want to carry his family and go that he will come back later.

“Before they came to my office and locked me up, a teacher was being flogged on the road as she was coming to school,my English Teacher,by name Sonia Amadi .They flogged her seriously, she is in the office I have to tell her to calm down. The mother of the boy also slapped her as she was coming to school.

“The same people who came to my office had already accosted my teacher and flogged her seriously, as she was entering the gate they followed her before marching straight to my office.”

Efforts to reach the mother of the assailants on the phone, proved abortive as she immediately dropped the call after our correspondent introduced himself as a Journalist.

The woman however did not responded to text and whatsapp messages sent to her seeking side of the story.

Meanwhile the School Management has lodged a formal complaint at Ada George Police Division where the teacher was issued a medical form to proceed to the clinic for the treatment of injuries sustained during the attack.

In the meantime, the National Coordinator of Centre for Basic Rights Protection And Accountability Campaign, Prince Wiro, has condemned the alleged assault on the female teacher as well as the invasion of the school by the junior student’s family.

Wiro stated that the parents of the student should have reported the matter to the Ministry of Education if they felt their child was treated inappropriately or to the Police, rather than taking laws into their own hands.

The Rights Advocate called on the Police to carry out a thorough investigation into the incident and ensure that anybody found culpable be made to face the law.
