An aircraft maintenance repair facility and a flight training school for Pilots and auto engineers will soon commence operations at the Gateway International Agro-Cargo and Passenger Airport.
The President, Air First Maintenance and Repair Facility, Gbolahan Abatan, who made this known in an interview with newsmen, shortly after a meeting with the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun in his office at Abeokuta, expressed eagerness to work with the state government in the development of the Aircraft Maintenance Repair Organization Facility at the Airport, saying the company would be able to assemble airplanes when needed parts were imported into the country.
‘’The facility, when fully operational in the state, would no longer need to travel outside the country for maintenance but come to the Airport for necessary repairs”, he said.
He noted that the company would create jobs for the people, commending Governor Abiodun for constructing a world-class Airport in the state.
“We had a great discussion and the encouraging thing is that the Governor has given us the assurance that he will give us all the necessary support to get things going”, he said.
In his remarks, Commissioner for Transportation, Engr. Gbenga Dairo, noted that the facilities at the airport were first class and boasted that it was the longest runway in the country, disclosing that the technology deployed for aircraft and airport management remained the best.
Engr. Dairo, while noting that Air First possesses a track record of excellence in aircraft maintenance, expressed delight at the siting of the foremost aircraft maintenance company in the Airport.
He called on investors to take advantage of the opportunity of the Airport development, saying that the state would engage with third-party partners in concession arrangements to attract commercial activities to the area.
