2024 Lagos Career Fair: LCDC Takes LASU Students On Employability Skills Training

The Lagos State University Career Development Centre, in conjunction with the Fasttrack Academy and Recruit Tech by Bossmeek on Thursday, 9th May 2024 organised the maiden edition of 2024 Lagos Career Fair at the Airport Hotel, Ikeja.

The event which had Managing Directors/ Chief Executive Officers, Human Resource Experts, Students of the Lagos State University and Corps members in attendance held under the theme; *“Building Resilience, Employability Skills and Positioning for Growth”*.

The Deputy Director, Lagos State University Career Development Centre, Dr Medinat Osundiya, in her address, expressed gratitude to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, and the organisers of the great event.

She encouraged the students and Corps members to pay attention, ask questions, and network with the CEOs in the room to enable them learn from their wealth of knowledge and make use of the opportunity they have.

The keynote speaker, Otunba Kazeem Olayemi Odeyeyiwa, CEO, Repton groups, in his lecture highlighted the employability skills needed to be marketable and outstanding in the labour market. He noted the skills as strong and effective communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, analytical and problem solving skills, self-management, and ethical awareness.

He further enlightened the students and would-be job seekers on how to properly position themselves for jobs. He explained that they need to exploit close circuit of close market, self-development, building good reputation, and networking.

The career fair had panel sessions of human resource experts and managing directors. One of the panelists was the Acting Director, Lagos State University Centre for Response and Prevention of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (LASU CRPSGBV), Dr Igot Ofem who spoke about her career journey as human capital development expert and what LASU CRPSGBV is doing to prevent sexual harassment in the workplace and campus.

The LASU CDC was presented an award in recognition and appreciation for its contributions and support of Lagos Career fair 2024.
