Following a video that has gone viral on social media about the pitiable living condition of a 300-level female student of Biology Education of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), the management of the institution has expressed concerns for the student.
As a follow up, the management has established a contact with her and commenced effort to intervene and make life more comfortable for the female student.
A reaction by Adejoke Alaga-Ibraheem, Head, Communication Unit on behalf of the University management read,” The University of Lagos Management is deeply disturbed by the alarming images and reports that have surfaced on social media (X formerly Twitter, Instagram and TikTok) depicting the deplorable home situation of a 300-level student of our University.
“We understand the widespread concern and outrage this has generated, and we want to assure the public that we have commenced investigations into the matter.
“Our Students’ Affairs Division and Faculty of Education management team have already established contact with the young lady, and are currently in talks with her.
“In line with our commitment to supporting our students’ welfare, we are poised to take swift and appropriate action based on our findings.
The management of the institution appreciates all stakeholders of the institution and the general public for their concern and support.
“We will keep members of the public informed of our findings and progress on the issue,” UNILAG added.
The concerned student, according to sources lived near the dumpsite of Ilaje, a riverine community in the Bariga Local Council Development Area.
