The Senate of Nigeria’s apex body of students, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), on Friday, passed a vote of no confidence on the continued stay in office by Dr Wahab Azeez as the Provost of the Federal College of Education, Technical (FCE,T) Akoka.
A public statement made available to newsmen by Comrade Akinteye Babatunde,the Senate President, National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) described the continued stay of Azeez as illegal and anti-student move.
The statement read in part: “The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) wishes to bring to the public’s attention our grave concerns regarding the reappointment of Mr. Azeez as the Provost of the Federal College of Education (Technical) Akoka.
“We have been made aware of numerous allegations of misconduct against Mr. Azeez.”
The association stated that his office has been marred by serious accusations bordering on the use of police to threaten staff members.
“These actions have created an environment of fear and insecurity within the College, severely affecting the welfare and academic progress of the students.
“The decision to reappoint Mr. Azeez as Provost, given these circumstances, is not only illegal but also unjust. It undermines the integrity of our educational institutions and erodes the trust placed in leadership roles. The Nigerian students have lost confidence in Mr. Azeez’s ability to lead,” the statement added.
The NANS Senate President appealed to the Hon.Minister of Education, Prof. Mamman Tahir to immediately reconsider the reappointment of the Provost and urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to conduct a thorough investigation into other allegations against Mr. Azeez.
“The future of our educational system depends on holding leaders accountable for their actions and ensuring that justice is served.
“Failure to address these concerns will leave us with no choice but to take necessary actions to protect the interests of Nigerian students. This may include peaceful protests and other forms of advocacy to demand accountability and transparency in our educational institutions.
“We stand united in our commitment to ensuring a safe and conducive learning environment for all Nigerian students. We will not relent in our efforts to seek justice and uphold the values of integrity and fairness in our education system,” NANS added in the statement.
