NYSC DG Urges Imo Corps Members To Utilize Service Year For Self Discovery

    The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Director General, Brigadier General Y. D Ahmed has charged the 2024 Batch B Stream l Corps Members deployed to Imo State to utilize and make optimal use of the opportunities provided for them by the NYSC management.

    Addressing the Corps at the Eziama Obaire Camp during his nationwide oversight tour, he informed them that the Federal Government and the Scheme have invested so much in their interest, by initiating the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) Programme aimed at empowering them with skills that will better their lives.

    The DG encouraged the Corps Members to avail themselves of the opportunities the SAED Programme provides.

    “The service year must be a period for useful and purposeful intention, define ways to fulfil plans and succeed in life,” the DG said.

    He equally informed them that investments have been made to ensure their safety throughout the service year, saying lectures and publications on how best to ensure adequate security have also been provided during the orientation course and charged them to adhere strictly to the security guidelines provided throughout their one year mandatory service to the fatherland.

    On national unity and integration, the Director-General encouraged them to establish friendships for life despite their diverse cultural and religious backgrounds.

    The Corps Members were highly commended for their high level of discipline and ability to imbibe the training inculcated in them within the three-week orientation exercise.

    Furthermore, the proactive measures taken by the NYSC Imo State in the fight against Cholera which has resulted in no incidence was highly acknowledged by the Special Guest.

    The Corps Members were presented with three fat cows by the Director General while some Corps representatives ( Quarter guard, Band, Cultural Troupe, Martial Arts) were presented with gifts by the DG.

    The NYSC Imo State Coordinator, Mrs Rachel Idaewor expressed her appreciation for the visit which she said was a morale- booster for the Corps Members.

    The visit which had the Director Information and Public Relations, Mr Eddy Megwa, Director South East Area Office, Mr Chris Jimba, Mr Nura Umaru (DD) Special Duties and other members of the entourage, featured a display of cultural dance, three hearty cheers, presentation of gift to the Director-General and interaction of the DG with collaborating agencies and staff.
