UNILAG Receives Chief Wole Olanipekun As New Pro-Chancellor

Management of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has formally received the newly appointed Pro-Chancellor of the University, Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN).

Being his first visit to UNILAG since his appointment and inauguration as Pro-Chancellor, Chief Olanipekun arrived the waiting hands of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, who was flanked by other principal officers of the University.

Thereafter, they proceeded to the Office of the Vice-Chancellor where each of the management team members briefed the Pro-Chancellor on some of the activities of their respective offices.

Prof. Folasade Ogunsola congratulated Chief Wole Olanipekun on his appointment and assured of management’s readiness to work with him and the entire Governing Council in the interest of the University.

She informed the Pro-Chancellor of ongoing efforts to increase the value of both staff and students, as well as improve infrastructures, efforts which Prof. Ogunsola said would require the support and inputs of Chief Wole Olanipekun to actualize.

In his remarks, the Pro-Chancellor, Chief Wole Olanipekun described his visit as a deliberate measure to familiarize himself with the management team of UNILAG ahead of the maiden Governing Council meeting slated for Monday, July 22, 2024.

Chief Olanipekun applauded successive managements of UNILAG for the continued monumental growth, developmental milestones and impactful strides being recorded by the University.

The UNILAG Law Alumnus recalled the crisis which followed the May 29, 2012 national broadcast of then President Goodluck Jonathan announcing a change in the name of the University of Lagos to Moshood Abiola University. He acknowledged the concerted efforts of both students and the Alumni Association which halted the move and described the accomplishment as one of the many potential benefits of a vibrant alumni association, one which UNILAG must be ready to leverage.

The Pro-Chancellor assured of his commitment towards a cordial and harmonious relationship with the University management towards further consolidation of the milestones of UNILAG.

Chief Wole Olanipekun was later accorded a guided tour of his alma mater. Areas toured included the University Main Library, Faculty of Law and National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) Hub NITHUB.

He also had a drive around the Entrepreneurship and Skills Development Centre (ESDC), the Distance Learning Institute (DLI) and a few other places on campus.
