The Provost, Lagos State University College of Medicine (LASUCOM), Ikeja, Professor Abiodun Adewuya and the Chief Medical Director (CMD), Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Professor Adetokunbo O. Fabamwo have both declared that Lagos State University will not only co-host the 11th FASU Games with the University of Lagos, but, host to win.
The Provost and CMD who were both represented by the Deputy Provost, Professor Olufemi Idowu and the Director, Clinical Science and Training/Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee, Professor Adebowale Adekoya in their respective welcome address, delivered at different venues within the campus, appreciated the Lagos State University Management under the leadership of Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, mni, fnli, NPOM, FSPSP, for securing the hosting rights alongside University of Lagos, Akoka and encouraged ‘Team LASU’ to win at the competition.
The two representatives pledged total support of the medical team of LASUCOM and that of LASUTH, including the volunteers from the medical students.
In his words, the Deputy Provost, Professor Idowu averred thus ‘The game is to unite us in Lagos, Nigeria and Africa. We are going to compete, compete to win, compete to excel.’
On his part, the Director, Clinical Science and Training/Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee, Professor Adekoya said ‘I said it earlier that the University is hosting to win, the inspection team says we are ready. Why are we co-hosting, may be the next edition will be in LASU. Thank you for your time.’
Earlier, the Chairman, Ad-hoc Committee on Sensitisation Rally, Professor Senapon Bak’re informed the representatives of the Provost and Chief Medical Director of the purpose of the sensitisation/awareness rally.
Professor Bak’re thereafter, presented the customised ‘T-Shirt’ to the Provost, while the Chairman, Media and Publicity Sub-Committee, Professor Sunday Alawode presented same to the College Secretary, Mr Adelaja Oyebanjo. In addition, car stickers and handbills for the FASU Games were presented to Dr Adetokunbo Ogunkoya to further create awareness within and outside the college.
The Vice President, Lagos State University Students’ Union, Lagos State University College of Medicine, Comrade Obayemi Ayobami urged all the medical students of the College to throw their weight behind the sporting activities, participate and be part of the sensitisation exercise.
Other top officials of the college that received the team from Ojo were the Sub-Dean, Faculty of Clinical Sciences, Dr Ibironke J. Akinola, Chairman, Doping Sub-Committee, Professor Coker, and Dr Ojewole Abdul-Fatai (Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences).
The sensitisation/awareness rally team included members of staff at the LASURadio 95.7 FM, University Multimedia Centre, Centre for Information and Public Relations (CIPR), members of various FASU sub-committees and students who were volunteers.
The vote of thanks was done by the College Secretary, Mr Adelaja Oyebanjo.
At the Ojo campus of the University, the sensitisation/awareness rally team was received by the Alternate Chairman/Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration, Professor Adenike Omotunde Boyo after the short report on the the Ikeja rally by Professor Senapon Bak’re.
Other top officials of the University at the event were, Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic, Professor Olufunsho Abayomi Omobitan, Special Assistant to the Vice Chancellor and Deputy Registrar (Vice Chancellor’s Office), Dr. Lateef Salami, Chairman, Media and Publicity, Professor Sunday O. Alawode, Coordinator, Centre for Information and Public Relations, Mrs. Oluwayemisi Thomas – Onashile, Chairmen and members of the sub – committees for the 11th FASU Games, staff and students of the University.
The Deputy Registrar, Vice Chancellor’s Office, Dr. Lateef Shekoni gave the vote of thanks.
Recall that the sixth strategic goal of the current University Administration under the leadership of Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello mni, NPOM, is to promote participation in sports and recreational activities.
