The Ogun State Government has pledged to partner with Babcock University, Ilisan to boost the state’s tourism potential, as revealed during the 15th-anniversary celebration of the Unity Chorale Initiative.
The announcement was made by Mr. Sesan Fagbayi, Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, at the event held at Babcock University.
The anniversary, themed “Our Journey Thus Far,” showcased a vibrant chorale festival featuring performances from various choirs across Nigeria, including the BACMAC Choir, Premier Symphony Orchestra and Chorale Group, Love Ensemble Music Ministries, The Messiah Chorale, Abraham Tabernacle Choir, The Babcock Pioneer Youth Church Choir, and the host, Unity Chorale Initiative.
Fagbayi underscored the significance of the collaboration between Ogun State and Babcock University, emphasising its role in promoting cultural activities and tourism through choral music.
He extended his appreciation to the participants and encouraged them to explore Ogun State’s renowned tourist sites such as Olumo Rock and Ijebu Shrine, as well as to take home local cultural products like Adire fabrics.
The event saw the presence of notable dignitaries, including former Governor Otunba Gbenga Daniel, Babcock University President Professor Ademola Tayo, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics) Professor Philemon Amanze, former Vice-Chancellor Professor Adekunle Alalade, Vice President of Student Development Dr. Sunday Audu, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Unity Chorale Initiative Engineer Onyedikachi Alala, and Chairman of the Ilishan Development Association Hon. Wemmy Osude.
Engineer Alala appealed for increased support from both the university and the state government for the Music and Creative Arts department at Babcock University and the Unity Chorale Initiative.
He highlighted the need for prioritizing these cultural endeavors to enrich the community.
Joshua Umahi, President of the Unity Chorale Initiative, expressed gratitude to the university administration, sponsors, and participating chorale groups.
He emphasised the festival’s role in community service, music training, and fostering friendships.
Participants, including Dr. Jerry Uchenna Nzenwata and Dr. Hannah Ukangwa, shared their positive experiences from the event.
Nzenwata described the festival as creating a joyful atmosphere of unity and mutual appreciation among participants, while Ukangwa praised the event for bridging cultural and social divides, inspiring hope for future collaborations.
