On Tuesday, 3rd September 2024, the Ojo Military Cantonment Commandant, Major A.I. Dirusu, along with his team members, Lieutenant (LT) O.O. Otusanya and Lance Corporal (LCPL) A. Adeyanju, paid a courtesy visit to the Lagos State University Vice Chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, at the Vice Chancellor’s Conference room, Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building, LASU main campus, Ojo.
The Vice Chancellor, represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Professor Adenike Omotunde Boyo, welcomed the military delegates.
She expressed appreciation for their visit and ongoing support in ensuring safety for all, as well as the strong relationship maintained with Lagos State University.
She emphasised the upcoming FASU Games and appealed for enhanced cooperation in security matters.
The newly deployed Major’s aim of the visit was to familiarise himself with the Vice Chancellor.
He presented a plaque to her, symbolising recognition and appreciation for the partnership between the military and the university.
He equally embraced all the points highlighted by the VC and promised cooperation, reiterating that LASU has nothing to worry about.
Present during the visit were members of the University Management, including the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics), Professor Olufunsho Abayomi Omobitan, and the Acting Bursar/Deputy Bursar, Mr Olabisi Yusuf.
Additional attendees included the Deputy Registrar, Vice Chancellor’s Office, Dr Lateef Sekoni; the Chief Security Coordinator, CSP Oluwole Ojo (Rtd); and members from the Vice Chancellor’s office and the Centre for Information and Public Relations (CIPR).
This courtesy visit not only reinforced the existing bond between the military and Lagos State University but also set the stage for continued collaboration in ensuring the safety and well-being of the university community.
The commitment expressed by Major Dirusu and the military team underscores the vital role that security plays in fostering an environment conducive to academic excellence.
