WAEC Releases 2024 WASSCE Private Candidates Results, Withholds 2,577 Results

LAGOS – The regional examination body, West African Examinations Council (WAEC), at the weekend, officially released the results of the 2024 Second Diet of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for Private Candidates.

According to a statement by WAEC’s Ag. Head of Public Affairs, Moyosola Adesina, a total of 43,923 candidates, representing 67.55%, secured credits and above in at least five subjects.

The body explained that out of the 65,023 candidates who sat for the exam, 34,878 candidates (53.64%) achieved credits in five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.

This marks a 9.35% improvement compared to the 2022 and 2023 results.

Speaking on the general conduct of the examination and candidates demographics, the Council stated that the examination was held across 5,067 centers, utilizing both paper-and-pen and Computer-Based Testing modes.

A total of 31,504 males and 33,519 females participated, with female candidates slightly leading at 51.55%.

Other statistics revealed that 95.90% (62,354 candidates) have had their results fully processed and released, 4.10% (2,669 candidates) are awaiting results due to processing errors. 3.96% (2,577 candidates) had their results withheld over allegations of examination malpractice.

The Council enjoined candidates with withheld results to visit the WAEC Notice of Examination Malpractice Portal for further details.

However, WAEC reaffirms commitment to Fairness to transparency and fairness,assuring that all candidates, including those with special needs, received necessary support.
