BAYELSA – Professor Dileep Kumar, the Vice-Chancellor of Hensard University, the first private tertiary institution in Bayelsa State, has assured the National Universities Commission (NUC), prospective students and their parents of the institution’s commitment to providing a world-class educational experience to Nigerians.
The Vice-Chancellor assured the public following the approval of 16 new undergraduate programmes by the National Universities Commission (NUC).
Professor Dileep Kumar expressed his delight at the approval, lauding the commitment of the university’s Chancellor, Senator Seriake Dickson, to expand access to quality education with Hensard global linkages.
The VC affirmed that Hensard University is set to expand its academic offerings significantly.
The approved programmes include Medicine and Surgery (MBBS), Nursing Science (B.NSc.), Mechanical Engineering (B.Eng.), Mechatronics Engineering (B.Eng.), Civil Engineering (B.Eng.), Electrical and Electronics Engineering (B.Eng.), Petroleum and Gas Engineering (B.Eng.), Anatomy (B.Sc), Marine Engineering (B.Eng.) and Physiology (B.Sc.). Other courses approved by the NUC cut across Complementary and Alternative Medicine (B.Sc.), Health Information Management (B.HIM), Medical Laboratory Science (B.MLS), Physiotherapy (B.Sc.), Public Health (B.Sc.), Radiography (BSc.).
A letter signed by Abubakar M. Girei, Acting Director of Academic Planning at the NUC, confirmed the approvals.
The NUC, in an earlier letter dated January 22, 2025, had approved 14 programmes, all to be offered full-time at the university starting in 2024/2025.
The programme is Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.), LL.B. (Law), B.Sc. Ed. Biology Education, B.Sc. Ed. Mathematics Education, B.Sc. Ed. Chemistry Education, B.Sc. Ed. Integrated Science, B.Ed. Educational Management, and B.Ed. Primary Education. Others are, B.Ed. Guidance and Counselling, B.Ed. Entrepreneurship Education, B.Sc. Ed. Business Education, B.Sc. Ed. Agricultural Education and B.Ed. Education Technology.
