The Ogun State Government has reiterated its deep commitment to youth empowerment and inclusive development aimed at equipping young people with the skills and tools needed to thrive in today’s world, calling them to support youth development in their host communities.
The Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, stated this at the opening and swearing-in ceremony of the 2025 NYSC Batch “A”, Stream II orientation course, held at the Gateway International Stadium, Sagamu.
He revealed that the new Corps members were partners in the development and ambassadors of progress in their host communities, saying the significant step would make them vital contributors to the progress of our great nation, Nigeria—and more specifically, to the success of Ogun State’s building our future together agenda.
Governor Abiodun submitted that his administration recognised the strategic role of the NYSC programme in shaping the next generation to become responsible citizens and transformational leaders, commending the leadership and entire management of the NYSC for sustaining this legacy programme—a unifying and transformative pillar of national development since its inception,
“Our administration will continue to invest significantly in initiatives that promote job creation, enterprise development, digital skills training, food security, and educational advancement. Through our I.S.E.Y.A. mantra—Infrastructure, Social Welfare and Well-being, Education, Youth Empowerment, and Agriculture—we are laying a sustainable foundation for long-term prosperity.
“I encourage you to align with this vision by contributing meaningfully to your host communities. Demonstrate patriotism, compassion, discipline, and leadership in all that you do. Avoid all forms of anti-social behaviour. Instead, become role models and change agents who will uplift and inspire others. Remember, your actions during this service year will shape your legacy and leave lasting impressions on the lives of many,’’ he said.
Earlier, the State Coordinator of the NYSC, Mrs. Olayinka Diana Nasamu submitted that the 3-weeks orientation exercise is a structured and regimented programme designed to instill in the corps members a disciplined mindset and sense of self-reliance necessary to confront the challenges that lie ahead during and after the service year.
She advised them to identify the needs of their host communities during their service period and work towards addressing them, encouraging them to embrace the opportunity by learning at least two skills for self-reliance and self-sustenance, ultimately becoming an employer of labour, as white collar jobs are becoming increasingly scarce.
“I congratulate you on the successful completion of your academic pursuits, which have qualified you for this noble call to National Service under the prestigious platform of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). I urge you to remain a shining example of how national service can foster peace, drive development, and build a stronger Nigeria. I implore you, dear Corps Members, to embrace this opportunity to demonstrate patriotism, selflessness, and national cohesion,” Mrs. Nasamu noted.
