A final-year student of the Department of Chemical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Lagos State University (LASU), Stephen Odoziaku, has emerged second in the third edition of the Space for Africa Essay Competition organised by the African Space Leadership Institute (ASLI).
This edition of the competition required the participants to write an essay outlining how space can be used to meet one of the goals of the African Union’s Agenda 2063.
Out of seventy-one (71) entries, Odoziaku’s essay shone brightly earning him one of the top three positions in the competition. His essay won him scholarships to participate in the 9th Africa Space Generation Workshop and the African Space Policy and Strategy (ASP) course at the African Space Leadership Institute. He will also receive support from ASLI to publish his work in both print and virtual formats.
The African Space Leadership Institute (ASLI) is Africa’s first space-focused think tank whose aim is to fill the gaps in space policy and decision-making in Africa.
ASLI was launched in October 2022, ushering in a new dispensation for space in Africa. ASLI is poised to facilitate the success of the African outer space programme as well as national space programmes, by bootstrapping knowledge and expertise in both engineering and non-engineering fields.
