Yaba College of Technology Staff Schools (YCTSS) has launched a modern computer laboratory to train students in digital literacy, emerging technologies and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Also, the staff schools honoured the Rector, Dr. Ibraheem Abdul, with a legacy, lifetime award.

The event, which was held at the YCT Staff Primary school’s auditorium, was a three-in-one celebration featuring the renaming of the Yellow House as “Abdul House” in honour of the Rector as a legacy award, a farewell ceremony for the former Chairman of the Board of Governors of the two schools, Dr. Omobayo Taofeek Raheem, and the commissioning of a state-of-the-art computer laboratory furnished with 10 desktop computers and an up-to-date training application to further enhance teaching and learning and status of the schools.

The Rector, Dr. Engr. Ibraheem Abdul, represented by the College Registrar, Mrs. Henrietta Badejo, expressed deep appreciation for the honour and praised the school’s leadership for their continuous strides in academic and moral development.

He reaffirmed the College Management’s unwavering support for the Staff Schools, noting that the welfare and progress of the schools remain a top priority in the college administration’s schemes.

Dr. Abdul paid glowing tribute to Dr. Omobayo Raheem, acknowledging his commendable services to the College staff schools and his transformational leadership as former Chairman of the Board of Governors.

Earlier, the Principal of the Secondary School, Mr. William Oluyemi, described Dr. Abdul as a visionary and compassionate leader whose impact transcends policy and administration.

“The naming of the sports house after him is a symbolic but heartfelt way of saying ‘Thank you’ for his selfless service to the schools,” Oluyemi stated.

On Dr. Raheem, the Principal commended his conflict-resolution style and steady guidance, saying, “His leadership soothes the nerves and is a healing balm on sores and wounds of the schools and staff.”

He added that both honorees have left legacies worthy of emulation and cannot be erased in the annals of the two staff schools.

The high point of the event was the commissioning of a modern computer laboratory at the Staff Primary School designed to introduce pupils to digital literacy and basic coding.

The head teacher of the School said that the facility is part of a broader initiative to prepare young learners for the emerging world of AI and smart technologies.

According to him, the computer laboratory will serve as a tech hub where students will be exposed to innovative tools and digital skills necessary for advancement in life and areas of choice of professional endeavours.

Dr. Abiodun Ashiru, the new Chairman of the Board of Governors, represented by a board member, Dr. Olurotimi Ajibola, lauded both Dr. Abdul and Dr. Raheem for their exemplary leadership qualities.

In his response, Dr. Omobayo Raheem expressed his gratitude for the farewell celebration, commending the staff, students, and College leadership for their support during his tenure.

The Yabatech Staff Schools consist of both the Primary and Secondary Schools owned by the college for both staff and the general public.
