In a major boost for higher education in Ekiti State, the National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted approval to Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti (EKSU), to commence seven full-time undergraduate academic programmes from the 2025/2026 academic session.

According to an official letter dated July 17, 2025, and signed by Abubakar M. Girei, Acting Director of Academic Planning at NUC, the approval comes after a rigorous resource verification exercise carried out by NUC’s panels of experts in May 2025.

The process assessed EKSU’s human and material resources to ensure compliance with national academic standards.

The newly approved programmes are:

B.Eng Mechatronics Engineering
B.Sc. Agricultural Economics
B.Sc. Agricultural Extension and Rural Development
B.Sc. Animal Science
B.Sc. Crop Science
B.Sc. Horticulture and Landscape Management
B.Sc. Soil Science
This development has been welcomed with enthusiasm by the university’s management, staff, and students, marking another significant milestone in EKSU’s pursuit of academic excellence.

Professor Joseph Babatola Ayodele, Vice Chancellor of Ekiti State University, described the NUC’s approval as “a dream come true” and a testament to the tireless efforts of the institution’s academic and administrative team. He emphasized that the new programmes reflect EKSU’s unwavering commitment to expanding educational frontiers and addressing the evolving needs of society.

Gratitude was extended to the Governor and Visitor to the university, His Excellency Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, as well as the Chancellor, Dr. Tunji Olowolafe, and the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Prof. Akin Oyebode, for their notable roles in advancing the university’s reputation and capacity both nationally and globally.

With this approval, prospective students can begin applying to any of these newly accredited programmes starting in the 2025/2026 academic session, further consolidating EKSU’s position as a leading center of innovation and learning in Nigeria.

“This achievement is a product of persistent dedication to quality and signals a new era of opportunity and academic progress for our university community,” remarked the Vice Chancellor.
