Corps Employers have been described as a vital player in Ogun State’s vision of youth development, employment generation, national unity and the enhancement of human capital development.
This was the submission of the Commissioner for Sports Development, Hon. Wasiu Isiaka during 2025 Corps Employers Workshop, themed: ‘Strengthening NYSC/Corps Employer’s Partnership for Improved Mutual Benefits,’ in Abeokuta.
The Commissioner revealed that the workshop was a platform to review existing partnerships, examine challenges, share success stories and chart new strategies for improved synergy between the scheme and corps employers, saying the workshop would help participants to be better equipped, informed and aligned to roles as joint custodians of Nigeria’s youth development initiative.
He added that the theme of the workshop perfectly encapsulates the shared vision for a brighter future for the Corps members, urging the employers to provide mentorship and cultivate environments where young talents could thrive.
Hon. Isiaka reiterated the Prince Dapo Abiodun’s-led administration commitment to youth empowerment and unwavering support for the NYSC, commending the corps members for their enthusiasm, innovation and discipline, which were qualities that reflect the heart of the nation’s future.
He pointed out that Corp members should be treated as the future leaders, urging their employers to invest in their growth and capacity development, rather than viewing them as just temporary staff in their various organisations.
“I urge you all to approach this partnership with intention. Let us be proactive in our collaborations, ensuring it goes beyond routine engagements. Together, let us maximise the mutual benefits that this invaluable scheme offers,” he said.
Earlier, NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs. Olayinka Nasamu, said that the employers play a crucial role in the success of the NYSC programme, as they receive the young and vibrant Nigerians after their orientation course and guide them through their service year with real-life responsibilities, noting that employers’ mentorship, supervision and support have a lasting impact, not only on their career paths, but also on nation building.
She added that the theme of the workshop reflects the shared commitment, deepening collaboration, enhanced productivity; all of which continues to ensure that the objectives of the NYSC scheme were fulfilled in an atmosphere of mutual respect and purposeful engagement.
