Babcock University, Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State, on Sunday, recorded another milestone as the faith-based institution produced a record 217 scholars with Doctor of Philosophy and 241 graduates in the First Class grade
The pioneer private university in Nigeria to start operation graduated 3,229 students at its 2025/23rd convocation.
The convocation also marked a significant milestone in the institution’s history as the President/Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ademola Tayo, officially bowed out after ten years of transformative leadership.
It also marked a historic first for the Babcock University Centre for Open and Distance e-Learning (BUCODeL), which produced its pioneer set of 55 graduates.
At the grand event held at the university’s main campus, the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Tayo, in an emotion-laden address, reflected on a decade of progress under his leadership, saying the university witnessed significant breakthroughs in both academic and infrastructural expansion.
He said, “Today we unleash not just graduates, but ambassadors of faith, excellence, and moral leadership. My heart is full of gratitude as I close this chapter.”
He stated, “As the VC, I would be leaving the office on December 1, 2025, I am happy to note that the university’s faculty members have won many research grants for life-changing projects in the last year, even as graduates of the school continue to take leadership roles in various spheres of life.”
Prof Bassey Idoh, the Chancellor, lauded the university’s management for hard work and commitment to producing graduates who are positively impacting their societies.
Fatimah Lawal of the Department of Economics emerged as the overall best graduating student with a 4.97 Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) on a scale of 5.
In the same vein, the overall best postgraduate in the PhD programme was the duo of Oladele Alabi and Emmanuel Okpechi, both with a CGPA of 4.91 on a scale of 5, while Oluwabamise Adeniyi was the overall best Master’s degree graduate with a CGPA of 4.89 out of a possible 5.0 points.
Dr. Bolaji Frederick Olusegun graduated as the oldest man at 71 years with a PhD. in Law.
