Two AAUA Staff Abducted By Gunmen In Ondo, One Rescued – Police

The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of two staff members of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), by suspected gunmen on Monday evening.

The victims were reportedly taken from their residence in Akungba-Akoko, in Akoko South West Local Government Area of the state.

One of the abducted individuals, identified as Omoniyi Eleyinmi, is a faculty officer in the Faculty of Education and a member of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) at AAUA. He was reportedly kidnapped at around 7:00 p.m. from his house along Supare-Akoko Road.

Confirming the incident on Tuesday in Akure, the state capital, the Police Public Relations Officer, Olushola Ayanlade, told the News Agency of Nigeria that the force responded swiftly and succeeded in rescuing one of the abducted individuals.

“Yes, two AAUA staff were abducted by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers,” Ayanlade said. “However, our men responded quickly and were able to rescue one of them.”

He added that the Commissioner of Police has ordered that the rescued victim be debriefed to extract intelligence that may assist in the ongoing operation to secure the release of the remaining abductee.

Efforts by the security operatives to locate and rescue the second victim are ongoing.
