The Director, Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED), National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mr. Kehinde Aremu-Cole, has charged Corps Members to uphold the virtue of humility during and after their service year.
Mr. Aremu-Cole, who is on a working visit to the Ogun State Orientation Camp for the ongoing 2025 Batch ‘B’ Stream One Orientation Course, gave the advice while addressing Corps Members at the Multipurpose Hall of the Sagamu Orientation Camp.
He emphasised that humility is essential for winning the trust of host communities, gaining approval for community development projects, and leaving lasting legacies.
Citing the example of former Senate President, Mr. Pius Anyim Pius, he noted that humility displayed during his service year in the North contributed to his eventual rise to national leadership.
In an interactive session, the former NYSC State Coordinator in Anambra State encouraged Corps Members to seek financial literacy with the same zeal they pursue social interests.
He urged them to be intentional about their financial future by becoming prudent and deliberate with money.
Highlighting the importance of the SAED programme, Mr. Aremu-Cole described it as a structured pathway to changing attitudes towards hard work and self-reliance.
He stressed that with over 400,000 Corps Members mobilised annually, the NYSC’s vision is for none to conclude service without securing employment or starting a business.
He also encouraged participants to explore the NYSC’s collaborations with Kudi Mata and the Bank of Industry, which provide start-up grants and interest-free loans to Corps Members.
“Where you are today is a function of the decisions you took yesterday, and where you will be tomorrow will depend on the decisions you make today. Take decisions that will define a successful future for you,” he said.
Earlier, the NYSC Ogun State Coordinator, Mrs. Olayinka Diana Nasamu, briefed the Director on camp activities and commended the Corps Members for their discipline, obedience, and adaptability to the regimented orientation lifestyle.
The visit featured entertainment by the camp dance troupe and a musical performance by Mr. Nat, an ex Corps Member in Ogun State who is now a staff of the NYSC.
As part of the visit, the Director inspected the SAED Centre and later engaged in a friendly table tennis match with the State Coordinator, bringing the working visit to a lively close.
