No fewer than 863 officers have participated in the June 2025 Combined/Promotion Tests and Compulsory Examinations for the Junior, Sub-Officer and Officers Cadres in Ogun State Civil/Public Service, an exercise aimed to raise the bars and integrity of the Service.
Speaking during the Monitoring exercise at Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta, the Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya said the process was in line with the extant laws of the Service which formed part of the requirements for confirmation of appointments of newly recruited officers in Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of Government, including parastatals, corporations and Boards.
Civil/Public Servants in the Ogun State Civil Service have been called upon to continue to safeguard the integrity of the Service, as well as abide by the rules and regulations guiding it, in order to retain the State in its best position among the comity of States.
He noted that the examination which is conducted twice a year also represented a criterion to be fulfilled for eligibility for promotion in case of officers on inter-cadre transfer, adding that the exercise was to familiarise officers with the rules, regulations and procedures in the Public Service, with the use of the reference materials.
The Head of Service also revealed that the Public Service Procurement Act would be introduced at the next edition, which would incorporate into the process, specialised examinations for Para-military officers like the TRACE and Amotekun.
“Beyond this, at the next stage of the exams, a different aspect would be introduced to it. The Public Service Procurement Acts would be inculcated into the exam syllabus and specialised exams introduced to paramilitary officers like the TRACE, Amotekun, in order to be abreast of extant laws and global best practices, as this is how to deepen the Service”, Mr. Onasanya said.
Speaking, Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Establishments and Training, Mrs. Lydia Fajounbo, who accompanied the Hos on the monitoring exercise, said the candidates comprised professional, sub-professional and junior officers who participated in the examination.
She noted that the examination was organised to test the ability of the workers in applying the rules, regulations and principles in the Statutory Books – Public Service Rules (PSR), Financial Regulations, Office Manual and other law as well as extant circulars to their daily official duties.
Reacting, A candidate from the Hospitals Management Board (HMB), Adepeju Bankole and another from the Office of the Auditor-General (State), Oreoluwa Ademola, including a candidate from the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), Ayoola Odufote, commended the State Government for the smooth process of the examination which included perfectly working computer systems and conducive environment among others.
