The Kwara State University (KWASU) has graduated twenty women from the Ilorin Women Development Centre, marking the successful completion of the Centre’s 4th cohort training programme in modern tailoring and cap-making. The graduation ceremony, held on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at the Akerebiata, Gambari Centre in Ilorin, celebrated another milestone in the University’s ongoing effort to promote women empowerment and community development across Kwara State.

Delivering his keynote address, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, congratulated the new graduates and commended their dedication throughout the training period. He charged them to be good ambassadors of both the University and their communities, urging them to make judicious use of the tools and equipment received during the empowerment exercise.

Professor Jimoh emphasized that KWASU’s goal goes beyond skill acquisition to include monitoring, mentorship, and impact assessment. He noted that the University would continue to follow up on the graduates to ensure they apply the knowledge and tools effectively to improve their livelihoods and create employment opportunities for others.

Highlighting the University’s commitment to community engagement, the Acting Chairman of the Committee on Women Development and Entrepreneurship, Professor Mubaraq Sanni, appreciated the management’s unwavering support for the initiative. He explained that the Ilorin Centre represents one of several hubs established by the University to promote women’s self-reliance and entrepreneurship.

Professor Sanni disclosed that the programme, which began in Ilorin, has now expanded to Osi, Ilesha-Baruba, and Malete, with each centre offering training in fashion design and related creative skills.

This expansion, according to him, demonstrates KWASU’s strategic vision to empower women across diverse communities in Kwara State.
