The Ogun State Secretariat of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), on Friday, formally opened and swore in 3,198 corps members deployed to the state for the 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream II orientation course at the Permanent Orientation Camp at the Gateway International Stadium, Sagamu.
She affirmed, “As at the close of registration, a total of 3,198 Corps Members were registered comprising 1,314 Males and 1,884 Females. The breakdown is as follows: Ogun State registered 2,296 While 902 Corps Members were dislodged from Lagos state. I am pleased to report that they have so far conducted themselves responsibly and have adapted to the regimented life in camp.
Delivering the opening address, the State Coordinator of NYSC in Ogun, Mrs Olayinka Diana Nasamu, welcomed the corps members and charged them to embrace discipline, patriotism, leadership and selfless service throughout their service year.
She commended the youths for successfully completing their studies and answering the nation’s call to service, describing them as vibrant, intelligent and resourceful Nigerians with a critical role to play in national unity and development.
The ceremony was graced by the Executive Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, represented by the Commissioner for Sports Development, Honourable Wasiu Isiaka, the Chief Judge of Ogun State, Honourable Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu, represented by Honourable Justice T. A. Okunsokan, who administered the National Pledge and NYSC Oath of Allegiance.
Mrs Nasamu disclosed that of the 3,198 corps members registered, 1,314 were males and 1,884 females. She added that 2,296 were deployed directly to Ogun State, while 902 were dislodged from Lagos State.
Nasamu urged the corps members to take the orientation programme seriously, particularly the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) scheme, which she described as key to self-reliance in an era of declining dependence on white-collar jobs.
Warning that indiscipline in any form will not be tolerated, she advised to familiarise themselves with the NYSC service guide and bye-laws, which outline their rights, responsibilities and expectations,” she said.
The NYSC coordinator praised Governor Abiodun for his continued support and commitment to the welfare and safety of corps members in the state, as well as collaborating agencies and stakeholders for their partnership in ensuring a successful orientation exercise.
She encouraged the corps members to actively participate in all camp activities and to serve with honour, dignity and integrity, assuring them that Ogun State remains a conducive and welcoming environment for national service.
“Welcome to Ogun State — the Gateway to the Nation. May your service year be rewarding, purpose-driven and filled with unforgettable experiences,” she concluded.
