The Yobe State State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA )in collaboration with the Yobe State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has concluded a spelling bee competition which was witnessed by Governor Mai Mala Buni.
The Governor represented by Deputy Governor Idi Barde Gubana was accompanied by members of the Yobe State Executive Council, Advisers, permanent secretaries, heads of boards and parastatals, and other esteemed guests.
In his address, the Governor reiterated the State Government’s commitment to providing quality and accessible education for all Children in Yobe State.
He expressed appreciation to the organizers, partners, and donors for their support, emphasizing that education is a collective responsibility.
Buni, who declared the competition open, assured that the government will continue to support for such initiatives and officially declared the competition open.
“Today’s event focused on building students’ confidence and familiarizing them with the competition’s rules, ensuring an inclusive environment where every participant is celebrated,” he added.
Earlier, the Executive Secretary of Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Dr. Mohammed Goje, in his welcome remarks explained that the contest with the theme: “Spelling to Improve Learning: A Key to Resilience”, highlighted the efforts to support Governor Buni’s initiatives in rebuilding the educational sector following the challenges posed by the Boko Haram insurgency.
“The dedication and skill of past participants were showcased through a demonstration by the 2020 competition winners, Asma’u from Fika LGA and Zakariya from Yusufari LGA respectively.
“The competition’s next phase, the knockout stage, will commence the following day to further challenge and showcase the academic prowess of our young,” he added .
