The University of Lagos, Nigeria, on Monday, November 7, 2022, played host to the Consul General of Germany, Weert Börner, LL.M. and his wife, Dr. Imke Börner.
The august visitors were at the University for the Lagos Alexander von Humboldt Kolleg Conference hosted by the Department of Microbiology and Alexander von Humboldt Klub, UNILAG.
They were accompanied by some fellows of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation including Emeritus Prof. Remi Sonaiya; Prof. Funso Sonaiya of Obafemi Awolowo University, Prof. O. G. Ademowo of the University of Ibadan; Prof. Idowu Olayinka (former Vice-Chancellor, University of Ibadan); Prof. A. Sanni of Lagos State University; PD Dr. Gerald Heusing, Prof. Oluyemi Akinloye, the Director of the Centre for Genomics of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) and Personalised Healthcare, UNILAG and Dr. Gbenga-Ilori of Innovation Office, UNILAG.
Shortly after they arrived at the University, the team paid a courtesy visit to the 11th floor, Senate House, Office of the Vice-Chancellor.
They were received by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Development Services, Professor Ayodele Atsenuwa, on behalf of Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe.
She welcomed the entourage and expressed gratitude to the German Embassy for its efforts in the area of the advancement of tertiary education in Nigeria.
She revealed that the University had initiated steps to highlight the various programmes available for foreign students as well.
This, a University of Lagos delegation led by the Vice-Chancellor, showcased at the UNILAG Nigeria-German Education summit held recently in Goethe Institute, Frankfurt, as well as discussed collaborative opportunities – in terms of staff and student exchange programmes.
The Consul-General thanked the Vice-Chancellor for the warm welcome accorded his team and expressed optimism for future collaborations with the University and Nigeria in various fields.
