The crisis rocking the Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, (AAUE) has taken a dramatic turn as the Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sonnie Asomwan Adagbonyin was asked to step aside by the newly constituted Governing Council of the University.

Adagbonyin’s exit, according to report, would pave the way for a peaceful resolution of the hydra headed problems facing the university.

Confirming his exit, Adagbonyin said in a letter to members of the Senate of the University in the early hours of Friday (29/8/2024), that he would be handing over the office of Acting Vice-Chancellor to the newly elected Provost of the College of Medicine, Professor Samuel Olowo, as the new Acting Vice-Chancellor.

He stated that the new Acting Provost of the University’s College of Medicine, Prof. Samuel Olowo would take full charge of the University pending the appointment of a substantive Vice Chancellor.

According to Adagbonyin, “On Wednesday August 28th, 2024, the University’s Governing Council announced a transition plan for the University towards the appointment of a substantive Vice-Chancellor.

“I will, by this arrangement, be stepping aside next week and handing over the office of Acting Vice-Chancellor to the newly elected Provost of the College of Medicine, Professor Samuel Olowo, as the new Acting Vice-Chancellor.

“I want to thank each and everyone of you that rendered me support in various ways which made it possible for my team and I to make our modest contributions to the development of Ambrose Alli University, even as we navigated the turbulent waters, I thank you all” he declared.
