Learners seating for 2025 West African Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in Ogun State have been charged to uphold dignity during the exercise and avoid any form of malpractices that could truncate their ambition in life.
The State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, gave this charge, while monitoring English Language Subjects in Schools within Abeokuta South Local Government Area of the State, saying the present administration have zero tolerance for manipulations in whatever forms.
Prof. Arigbabu, expressed satisfaction towards the attitude of the Principals and Teachers for paying extra attention to the students and organising extra lesson for them, maintaining that the gesture would influence their performance positively.
The Commissioner was optimistic about the investment of the Prince Dapo Abiodun’s government in terms of provision of conducive atmosphere, Teachers welfare, as well as capacity building for the teachers and school administrators, as notable factors that could enhance better performance of the learners writing the examination.
“As much as possible, government has ensured there is no unnecessary distractions or disruption in school setting. Don’t also forget that we also encourage our teachers and support them through capacity building to enhance their effectiveness,’’ he said.
Speaking, Principal of Abeokuta Grammar School Senior, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, Pastor John Olusola, appreciated West African Examination Council (WAEC) for being seamless in putting the exercise together, as well as taking after Ogun State by introducing Optical Memory Recorder (OMR) sheets that linked students to their identities.
Also, learners from Abeokuta Girls’ Grammar School, Onikolobo, Abeokuta, Peculiar Adebamiro and Favour Adisa, said they were happy towards the introduction of OMR sheets saying that it would help to avoid human errors and manipulations.
Other schools visited included, Ijemo-Titun High School, Macjob Grammar School, Government Science and Technical Secondary School, Lisabi Grammar School and Baptist Girls’ College all in Abeokuta.
