A 10-year-old Junior Secondary School 1 student, Master Dunmininu Yusuf, last week narrowly escaped a terrifying ordeal after allegedly being threatened by an Okada (motorbike) rider who diverted him through a bush path, following a school bus breakdown.
His guardian, Oluwaranti Odunewu, is demanding an urgent investigation and accountability from Jane Nath College, Ipakodo, citing gross negligence.
Ms. Odunewu said the family received a disturbing call from an unknown woman, claiming to be a parent, instructing them to pick up Dunmininu from her residence without explanation.
Alarmed, Ms. Odunewu rushed to Jane Nath College, only to find the school unaware of the bus-registered student’s whereabouts and unable to offer a satisfactory explanation for his disappearance.
Further communication led Ms. Odunewu and two teachers to the stranger’s residence, where they found Dunmininu safe but visibly shaken.
The young boy recounted a harrowing story: the school bus broke down, and he, being the last student on board, was reportedly put on an Okada by the driver to be taken home. However, the rider diverted through a bush path, threatening to kill Dunmininu when he questioned the route.
In a courageous act, Dunmininu jumped off the moving bike, landing on his heavy schoolbag. He then ran to a nearby house he recognised as belonging to a schoolmate, where the family took him in and contacted his mother.
