Ogun State Government has once again reiterated its unwavering commitment towards investing in adult and non-formal education to ensure illiteracy is totally wiped out of every community in the State.
Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu reiterated this in Abeokuta during a one-day Capacity Building Workshop with the theme, “Empowering Adult Educators: Harnessing Digital Technology for Adults and Non-formal Education”, organised by the Agency for Mass Education for Adults and Non-formal Education Personnel.
Declaring the Workshop open, Prof. Arigbabu said the present administration’s policy on mass literacy was second to none, hence its efforts and dedication to addressing the level of illiteracy for the socio-economic status of the State.
The Commissioner noted that the workshop was put in place to sharpen personnel’ skills and update their knowledge with the new trend of discharging their responsibilities for optimal performance.
Arigbabu recalled that Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration has Keen interest in the Adult Education sector by increasing and ensuring regular payment of their honorarium, uninterrupted funding for prompt monitoring and supervision of existing Adult Literacy Centres and creation of more, among others.
“We have touched every aspect of the education sector including Agency for Mass Education, our administration has placed mass literacy, adult and Non-Formal education at the heart of its education policy, we will continue to prioritise eradication of illiteracy in Ogun State,” Arigbabu affirmed.
In her remarks, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs. Oluwatosin Oloko represented by the Director of Education, Department of Education Support Services, Mrs. Mary Okereafor, charged participants to take advantage of the workshop to ask questions, share experiences and embrace the opportunities for collaboration and innovation.
Earlier in her welcome address, Director of Education, Agency for Mass Education, Mrs. Abosede Odulesi stated that all activities in the agency have been fully digitalised, adding that the workshop would focus on exploring practical tools and discovering how digital technologies can make knowledge transfer among adults, more effective and inclusive.
