The Nigeria Police Force has assured that the murder case of 18-year-old Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) student, Christiana Idowu, is actively being prosecuted, contrary to claims by her grieving father that the family has been kept in the dark.
Responding to public concern on X, Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, revealed that prosecution of the prime suspect, 23-year-old Ayomide Adeleye, commenced in September 2024 and has since been taken over by the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
He added that both the family and the university have been carried along throughout the process.
Hundeyin’s clarification followed an emotional video shared by Christiana’s father, Idowu Oluwafemi, who tearfully appealed for justice one year after his daughter was abducted and murdered by a supposed friend.
In the video, he lamented that the family had received no updates, saying, “I have not heard anything about the case. I don’t even know if the boy has been released or not. My daughter cannot just go like that without justice.”
Christiana, a 300-level student of FUNAAB, was abducted in August 2024 while travelling from Ikorodu to Lagos for her industrial training.
She was later found dead after her killer, Adeleye, a philosophy student of Olabisi Onabanjo University, confessed to strangling her and extorting N360,000 from her mother while pretending she was still alive.
Her father’s plea reignited public outrage, prompting renewed calls for transparency and speed in the judicial process. Nigerians online have since urged the authorities to ensure that justice is neither delayed nor denied.
Hundeyin’s update offers a glimmer of hope for the bereaved family, affirming that justice for Christiana remains on course, even if slow.
