‘This is what Sanwo-olu wants to spend on Salary, Health, Housing, GPS, Environment, Public Safety, others;’ Inside the 2026 Budget Lagos governor presented to Assembly
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has presented a budget estimate of ₦4.237 trillion for the 2026 fiscal year to the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Presenting the proposal on Tuesday, the governor described the 2026 Appropriation Bill—tagged the “Budget of Shared Prosperity”—as a forward-looking plan designed to consolidate the achievements of his administration in its final full year.
Sanwo-Olu said the budget projects total revenue of ₦3,993,774,552,141, consisting of ₦3,119,774,552,141 in Internally Generated Revenue and ₦874 billion from Federal Transfers. He added that the figures leave a deficit financing requirement of ₦243,332,457,167.
How The Money Will Be Spent
The governor explained that capital expenditure for 2026 is projected at ₦2,185,085,419,495, while recurrent expenditure is estimated at ₦2,052,021,589,812. The recurrent component covers overheads, personnel costs, and debt obligations.
He noted that total overhead costs amount to ₦1,084,245,843,091, including general overheads, subventions, and dedicated expenditure. Personnel costs are projected at ₦440,494,339,384, recurrent debt charges at ₦143,876,701,943, and debt repayments at ₦383,404,705,394.
Sectoral allocations for the year include ₦847,472,071,966 for General Public Services (GPS) and ₦147,040,088,897 for Public Order and Safety (POS). Economic Affairs (EA) received the largest share with ₦1,372,307,808,626.
Other allocations include ₦235,957,235,138 for the Environment, ₦123,760,310,429 for Housing, ₦338,449,258,945 for Health, and ₦54,682,339,586 for Recreation. Education is allocated ₦249,132,921,287, while Social Protection will receive ₦70,024,171,038.
Sanwo-Olu said 2026 is significant as the final full year of his tenure, stressing the importance of completing all ongoing projects and ensuring continuity. He added that the government will continue to engage residents so that public priorities guide state decisions.
