Ogun SUBEB Boss Advocates For Sports Academy In Primary Schools

To further deepen sports culture and development, the Executive Chairman, Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr. Femi Majekodunmi has called for the creation of a Sports Academy in Public Primary schools in the three Senatorial Districts of the State.

Dr. Majekodunmi made the call during the grand finale of the third edition of the Primary School’s 2022 Governor’s Cup competition in Abeokuta, saying the event was organised to discover new talents among the young ones and nurture them to stardom towards replacing the present athletes.

The SUBEB boss described school sports as an important aspect of learners’ life, saying it would help them at improving their health and inculcating the virtues of discipline, hard work, patience, respect, and teamwork, among others into the future leaders, added that “conception and implementation of school sports will enhance the academic performance of learners’’,

He appreciated the Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun for his support to fish out talents among basic school learners and revitalising the education sector through the provision of a conducive learning environment tagged “Yellow Roof Revolution’’, across the State primary schools.

In her remark, the Director, Academic and School Service, SUBEB, Mrs. Kehinde Anifowose said the event was another opportunity to positively engage the school children and raise future stars in the sports sector.

It would be recalled that the 10 days competition started in November 2022, with participating schools drawn from  Remo, Ijebu, Yewa and Egba Zones.

Meanwhile, pupils in primary schools under Ifo Local Government took the first position, while Imeko Local Government school pupils emerged second and Sagamu Local Government school pupils were in the third position.
