CIPSMN Helmsmen Fete Registrar/CEO, Call For Change In Procurement Policies

It was a momentous occasion as the helmsmen of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply Management of Nigeria (CIPSMN) fete the Registrar and CEO of the institute, Professor Mohammed Aliyu, at a warm ceremony.

The Registrar of the institute, Aliyu, was recently decorated as a Professor of Entrepreneurship and Strategic Business Management (honoris causa) by the International Entrepreneurship University, Delaware, United States.

At a brief ceremony which was held at the institute’s headquarters office in Lagos, Prof. Aliyu played host to some key officials of the institute from across the states and the exam where he formally presented the certificate.

The CIPSMN Registrar who acknowledged the vital role played by the staunch members of the institute said his recognition was in honour of the various activities of the institute over the years to ensure sanity in the procurement profession in the country.

Appreciating their individual and collective roles in uplifting the growth and development of the institute since its establishment and chartered status, the Registrar urged members to work smart and harder to further improve the reputation of the institute to the country from wastages arising from poor procurement by non-professionals who use the profession as conduit pipes to fleece the nation’s resources.

He urged the Federal Government to rejig the nation’s procurement management policy and entrust procurement that a huge percentage of the country’s budget to professionals to reduce or eliminate wastages in the system.

Present at the ceremony were Mr. Adeyemi Kabir, an examiner and supply chain management consultant; Mr. Popoola Kayode, an examiner, Babalola E.O., ex-Ogun State CIPSMN Chairman and Mr. Olabode Anthony, Chairman, Examination Committee.

Others are Mr. Daramola Babatunde, Managing Partner, Real Impact Consulting Ltd.; Mr. Abiodun Aribisala, Deputy Registrar; Mr. Folorunso Matthew, Southwest Coordinator; Mr. Alao Ayilara, Assistant National Secretary; Mr. George Omongbale, Fellow/National Military Coordinator; Mr. Adewale Peter, a Lecturer in conversion programme.

They eulogised Prof. Mohammed Aliyu for bringing fame, global recognition and reputation to CIPSMN.

Mr. Omongbale said, “I can’t talk about Prof. Mohammed Aliyu enough. At various local and international seminars we have attended together, he has always won great admiration. He is our father and father of the institute giving reputation to CIPSMN globally.

“Prof, we are lucky to have you around the institute. If he compiles the various papers he has presented, it would be a worthy book. The recognition represents a new page for the institute,” he added.
