A Don, Professor Emmanuel Onwioduokit says the myriads of socio-economic, political, and environmental challenges confronting Nigeria have created the need for a proper graduate as President.
Onwioduokit, a Professor of Economics at the University of Uyo, in a chat with our Correspondent on Friday, opined that a proper University graduate, through exposure to various academic disciplines and interactions with peers from diverse backgrounds, would develop a fine understanding of complex issues.
The Don advocated that a president with a strong educational foundation can navigate the complexities surrounding issues related to poverty alleviation, infrastructure development, healthcare provision, or security enhancement with agility and insight.
Beyond the realm of domestic affairs, the educational background of a university graduate president, can, according to Prof Onwioduokit, significantly enhance Nigeria’s standing on the global stage
His words: ‘Having a university graduate as president of Nigeria offers numerous advantages that extend far beyond the confines of academic achievement.
“Firstly, their attainment of a higher level of education serves as a foundational element for effective leadership. A rigorous academic curriculum equips individuals with the intellectual tools necessary for critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical reasoning.
“These skills are indispensable in navigating the intricate landscape of governance, where decisions often have far-reaching consequences impacting the lives of millions.
“Moreover, a university education fosters an environment conducive to the exploration of diverse perspectives and the exchange of ideas”.
The Professor said the breadth of knowledge, acquired through proper academic exposure enables an individual graduate to approach challenges with an open mind, synthesizing insights from different domains to formulate comprehensive solutions.
“Furthermore, the critical thinking skills honed during their academic journey empower university graduates to dissect problems, identify underlying causes, and devise innovative strategies for resolution.
“Ultimately, a university graduate president has the potential to catalyze positive change and propel Nigeria towards a brighter, more prosperous future,” he maintained.
