The Executive Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma has called on the 2024 Batch A Stream l Corps Members deployed to the State to uphold the sterling core values of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) which focuses on integrity, patriotism, efficiency, commitment and teamwork in during and after the service year.
His Excellency made the call while addressing the 1,395 Corps Members comprising 638 males and 757 females during the Swearing-In Ceremony/ Official commencement of the 2024 Batch A (Stream l) Orientation course at the NYSC Permanent Orientation camp, Eziama Obaire.
He stated that as graduate youths, they have the responsibility to rekindle hope for a better and more positive Nigeria.
To achieve this, the Governor explained that it is pertinent for for corps members to imbibe these core values to assist the scheme in achieving its mandate of fostering National Unity and Integration, a ground breaking achievement it has sustained for the past fifty years of existence.
The Special Guest who was represented by the Director of Administration and Finance in the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Mr Sixtus Onyeocha, encouraged the Corps Members to utilize the opportunities designed in the 3-week orientation course content effectively.
These, he asserted will assist them in garnering leadership and problem-solving qualities which are instrumental to the development of Imo State.
He reminded them that the experiences acquired during the orientation course with
emphasis on the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, will prepare them for self-reliance and financial independence.
The Governor emphasised that as a demonstration of the commitment of his administration towards the well-being and safety of the Corps Members deployed to the State, all necessary modalities has been put in place to ensure adequate security and reward system for those who exceptionally discharged their assignments during the service year, starting from the orientation Camp.
Earlier in her introductory address, the NYSC Imo State Coordinator, Mrs Rachel Idaewor encouraged the Corps Members to see the orientation course as a veritable
platform and opportunity to promote and sustain National unity and integration.
She advised them to make extra efforts to imbibe the motto of the Scheme which is Service and Humility.
Speaking further, she informed them that the Orientation exercise is aimed at introducing them to the objectives and programmes of the Scheme.
“To achieve the mandate, Management has adequately empowered and strategically deployed officials to see that their legitimate needs are met while on camp.”
The Coordinator used the opportunity to express the appreciation of the Scheme to the State Government and the good people of Imo State for providing a conducive environment for the Corps members deployed to the State.
The Chief Judge of Imo State represented by Hon. Justice V.O.B. Ekezie administered the Oath of Allegiance on the Corps Members.
Having been sworn on oath, the Corps representatives later carried out the sample signing of the Oath of Allegiance form on behalf of the Corps members.
During the ceremony, the ‘Man ‘O’ War Thug of War’ was staged for the entertainment of guests.
