The Vice-Chancellor of Bells University of Technology,Ota, Prof.Jeremiah Ojediran,has appealed to the Federal Government to extend intervention funds to private universities in the country.
This, he said, would make the private universities contribute their quota to National development.
Ojediran appealed to the 14th Convocation Press Conference of the Institution on Wednesday in Ota, Ogun.
He enumerated areas in which the Federal government could assist the sector of private universities including research grants, training of staff, and provision of infrastructure, among others.
The VC noted that private universities were also contributing meaningfully toward the national development of the country, adding that they were stakeholders in moving forward the human capital development.
“There is a need for the federal government to invest in human development to have an orderly and educated society.
“In addition, the intervention would also help the private universities to produce quality research,” he said.
The VC noted that private universities have contributed immensely to the human capacity of Nigeria, saying products of private universities are making Nigeria proud all over the world.
Ojediran reiterated the commitment of institutions towards more research activities to achieve sustainable development in the country.
He said that institution has achieved a remarkable milestone having commenced operation with 51 students in 2005 having attained 3,600 carrying capacity against the approved 5000 by the National Universities Commission (NUC).
Ojediran said that the institution was ranked 13th best private university and 20 top universities in Nigeria by ranking bodies
The VC urged the federal government to honour its agreement with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), to reduce the incessant case of industrial strikes in tertiary institutions.
Ojediran advised the federal government to always deploy open-minded dialogue toward resolving conflicts with ASUU to reduce the brain drain in the country.

Universities For Emerging Innovations” to be delivered by:
Professor Olumide Babatope Longe, Professor of Computing and Information Systems Security.
This will be followed with the admission to first degrees for Direct Entry, award of higher degrees to regular students, award of higher degrees and diplomas and conferment of Honourary Degree, to Mr. Ayo Aderinwale, a founding member of the university on Saturday 5th November, 2022.
A female student and graduate of Mechatronics, Miss Arogundade Reheemot emerged as the overall Best Graduating student.
