Researchers from the Centre for Housing and Sustainable Development, University of Lagos, recently teamed up with researchers from ten universities and international development agencies drawn from Africa, the Caribbean, Latin America, and United Kingdom to talk about multisectoral strategies for expanding access to healthy urban environments, under the Network Investigative meeting.
The researchers include: Professor Taibat Lawanson, Dr. Victor Onifade, Damilola Odekunle, Dr. Vide Adedayo, and Dr. Olabode Orelaja, as well as two non-teaching staff – Mr Alabi Taiwo and Mrs Oluwatoyin Adeniyi who participated in the Research Administration sessions.
The meeting was held at Wolfram College, University of Cambridge from Monday, October 17 to Friday, October 21, 2022.
It also featured a roundtable discussion on the Intersection of Population Health, Urbanisation and Climate Change in African cities held at the Lee Hall of Wolfson College on October 19, 2022 where Professor of Urban Management and Governance at the University of Lagos, Professor Taibat Lawanson shared her research on inclusive public space and physical activity, and participatory approaches to developing community resilience action plans in Lagos.
This session was completely sold out hours before its commencement.
GDAR Network is funded by the United Kingdom National Institute for Health (NIHR) Global Health Research Initiative, with a primary focus to generate evidence for sustainable Noncommunicable disease (NCD) prevention related to food and physical activity, in the broader context of urban development, health and climate emergencies, and environmentally-vulnerable settings; bridge research and policy gaps and nurture collaboration across sectors to support healthy cities as well as build the next generation of research leaders skilled in mixed-methods approaches to addressing local and global upstream determinants of NCDs.
