Dr. Olunifesi Suraj Becomes UNESCO Institute For Media Literacy Coordinator

Dr. Olunifesi Suraj of the Department of Mass Communication is now the Nigerian Coordinator of the UNESCO-UNAOC Media and Information Literacy and Intercultural Dialogue University Network (MILID-UNITWIN).

The MILID-UNITWIN programme is a strategic resource network of 900 institutions from over 120 countries, aimed at strengthening connections between research and development, policy and practice at national, regional, and global levels.

As the Coordinating Centre in Nigeria, the University of Lagos leads four other member universities to represent Nigeria at the global level of the MILID-UNITWIN programme.

The other universities are Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), the University of Calabar (UNICAL), and the University of Jos (UNIJOS).

An Associate Professor, Dr. Suraj is a specialist in Media & Information Literacy; Social Media & Freedom of Expression; and Disinformation & Media Regulation.

On behalf of the university community, the Vice-Chancellor congratulates Dr. Olunifesi Suraj on his well-deserved appointment; and wishes him a successful time in office.
