Lagos Educator Adeola Adefemi Shatters 8-Year Drought, Wins 2023 Maltina Teacher Of The Year Award

Lagos State educator, Adeola Adefemi on Friday shattered the 8-year drought in the prestigious Maltina teachers award as she claimed the 2023 Maltina Teacher Of the Year Award

Adefemi, a teacher in Keke Senior High School 1, Agege. beats 1499 contestants that registered for the 2023 Maltina Teacher of the Year awards.

Adefemi will receive a total cash award of N6.5 million (N1.5 million upfront and N1 million per year for the next five years) from the Nigerian Breweries – Felix Ohiwerei Trust Fund for taking home the 9th edition of the Maltina Teacher of the Year award.

A fully equipped computer lab or a six-classroom building worth N20 million will be created for his school in his honour by the Fund, and she will also get the opportunity to participate in an expense-paid capacity development workshop overseas.

The first runner-up was Mr. Azuh Chike Emmanuel of Delta State, who received a prize of N1.5 million. The second runner-up was Mr. Adam Abdulquadir Nda of Niger State, who received a prize of N1, 250.000.00.

Additional 10 educators who won state championships received N500,000 each as compensation.

Since its inception, the Maltina Teacher of the Year programme has produced nine grand winners: Rose Nkemdilim Obi of Anambra (2015), Imoh Essien of Akwa Ibom (2016), Felix Ariguzo of Delta State (2017), Olasunkanmi Opeifa of the Federal Capital Territory (2018), Ezem Collins of the United States of America (2019), Oluwabunmi Anani of the United States of America (2020),

With regards to Maltina Teacher of the Year to recognise, celebrate, and reward exceptional teachers in Nigeria, Nigerian Breweries-Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund launched the Maltina Teacher of the Year national competition in 2015.

The Federal Ministry of Education, along with other educational stakeholders such as the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPPS), and Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), promote the Maltina Teacher of the Year.

With a funding capital of 100 million Naira, the Nigerian Breweries-Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund was established in 1994 with the goal of enabling sustained quality education through sector-specific organised intervention.
The Fund has presences at the basic, secondary, and university levels of education in each of Nigeria’s six geographical zones.
