The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology in Ogun State, Mrs. Abosede Ogunleye has said that the alarming crime rate in the society could be reduced drastically if youths were supported and engaged in skills acquisition.
Mrs. Ogunleye stated this in a Capacity Building Workshop organised by the Ministry in collaboration with the Ogun State Skills fund, under the State Economic Transformation Project (OGSTEP) with the theme: “Embracing Change”, noting that the State government was rehabilitating and equipping all the eight Technical and Vocational Colleges owned by the State into an international standard.
Ogunleye noted that training was to ensure that youths were trained to be skillful in various trades and to make them self-dependent, saying “The ministry had provided a Training Service Provider (TSP), who will train and certify participants in any desired vocational skills. Aside from being educated, it will enable them to acquire more skills that would earn them additional income’’.
In their appreciation notes, representatives of the participants Mr. Jamiu Egberongbe and Mrs. Temilolu Onaja, expressed their gratitude to the organisers for putting up a life-transforming programme, especially at this time of economic hardship, promising to use the acquired skills to contribute to the development of the Nation.
