The Lagos State University has been approved by the Brazilian government as one of the Centres of Excellence for the conduct of the CELPEBras Examination.
The approval was secured through the Lagos State University Centre for Afrobrazilian Studies.
CELPEBras is the Proficiency Course in Portuguese for Foreigners, a major requirement for those seeking to study in Brazil.
Each year, the Brazilian government gives hundreds of scholarships to foreign students, both at Undergraduate and Postgraduate Levels, in any course of their choice.
The Lagos State University Centre for Afrobrazilian Studies has since been involved in training students for this CELEPBras Examination while the examination is conducted twice a year, in April and October.
The final approval dated 21st December, 2021, was consequent upon the successful training for experts from six universities in six countries, including Germany, Poland, the United Kingdom, France, Russia and Nigeria, organised by the Brazilian Government, in Berlin, Germany, between 13th and 15th December 2023.
At the training, LASU was represented by Prof Tayo Ajayi, Director of the Centre for Afrobrazilian Studies.
With this approval, all students from West Africa, except Guinea Bissau, will be coming to Lagos State University to sit for the examination.
