FG Lauds NECO’s Efforts Toward Transforming Education

Federal Ministry of Education has commended the National Examination Council (NECO) for its unrelenting efforts in driving the education transformation effort in the country.

Minister of Education for State, Dr.Yusuf Tanko Sununu, gave the commendation at the ground breaking foundation laying ceremony of the National Examination Council (NECO) state office in Lafia on Friday.

He said the construction of the office represents a significant leap in the effort to provide qualitative education across the country.

Sununu explained that NECO is an examination that is widely recognized internationally and has all the criteria of a viable examination body.

He expressed the commitment of the ministry to support NECO to realise the projects.

The Minister further explained that the federal government DOTs projects will enable them to have data of students in the country.

He however said that the out-of-school children is a major concern of the millennium, saying that the figure is increasing and government is working to tackle the menace.

He reiterated the federal government commitment to address the menace of out-of-school children as a precursor to save the country from slipping into an impending precipice.

Speaking, Registrar/Chief Executive NECO, Prof. Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, appreciated the Minister for his belief in NECO’s mission and for the allocation of resources towards building of the seven state offices, which strategically located across the six geo-political zones of the nation.

“The new state offices in Abia, Jigawa, Lagos, Rivers, Sokoto, and Taraba, along with this magnificent edifice we are about to erect here in Lafia, will serve as beacons of excellence in the administration of examinations in Nigeria, he said.

He explained that the project is a direct outcome of the federal government’s commitment to infrastructural development within the education sector.

He added that part of the seven capital projects captured for NECO in this year’s budget appropriation underscores the government’s dedication to providing institutions like NECO with the necessary resources to fulfill their mandate effectively.

The NECO Chief Executive, therefore, reaffirmed his commitment towards providing quality examinations and assessments that meet the highest standards of excellence, and pledge to continue working collaboratively with all stakeholders to ensure that Nigerian students have access to the best educational opportunities
