A major challenge that business owners in Nigeria face is the inadequate skill set among the majority of people in the job market in the country. Most of the people in the job market do not have the skills to meet the demands of the available jobs.
However, SYL Institute of Multimedia Technology says it is determined to bridge the gap by training Nigerians in ICT and giving them the relevant skills that will help them to fill the available job vacancies, establish and manage businesses of their own.
Tosin Odubela, the chief executive officer of SYL Institute of Multimedia Technology, said that the institute is a skill-based ICT training and innovation centre situated at Kajola-EleweEran, lle-Ife, adding that it discovers and empowers people to redefine and position the indigenous technology landscape for wealth creation and global competitiveness.
He stated that while the institute offers certificates, its major focus is on skills acquisition, solving real problems, exposing trainees to global opportunities and helping them to build enviable career show-reels.
He added the objective of the institute is to help candidates receive the knowledge, skills, and insights to build toward job advancement and success.
Odubela said the institute offers courses in web and business information systems, computer graphics, cloud computing with AWS, Azure and GCP, digital marketing and web branding, data content conversion, applied robotics and Artificial Intelligence.
He said it also offers courses in immersive courses in interaction and game design, e-learning design and development, interactive data analytics and visualization, advanced video post-production and VFX, advanced 3D modelling and animations, computer-aided drawing/design (CAD), and advanced digital sound authoring.

He disclosed the institute also offers courses in augmented and virtual reality, corporate cyberspace security and management, app development for mobile devices (Android),
The chief executive officer of SYL Institute of Multimedia Technology said the institute also offers training in app development for mobile devices (iOS), open source health information systems, user interface/experience design and introduction to blockchain technology.
He said the training features virtual/face-to-face sessions, remedial sessions, 100% hands-on boot camps, seminars and hackathons, international work hunt sessions, real-life projects and discounts on the purchase of training hardware and software.
Odubela said that each programme at the introductory level lasts eight weeks with daily instructions and weekly projects. He also disclosed that Daylight Foundation is sponsoring 100 trainees who register for any of the institute’s online programmes.
