The realisation of educational goals, such as advancement and progress is hinged on the availability of competent and qualified teachers who can integrate technology and digitalisation into tangible outcomes.
Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, stated this during the 2024 National Conference of Committee of Deans of Education In Nigerian Universities (CODENU), with the theme, ‘Innovation of the Future Trajectory of Nigerian Teacher Education’, at University of Lagos, Lagos State, saying the quality of teachers would determine the quality of transformative change within the society.
Prof. Arigbabu stated that digitalising the education system of Ogun State had helped in proffering visible and sustainable solutions to major challenges encountered in the sector, including, data-driven, decision-making, curbing indiscipline among learners, teachers’ welfare, supply of adequate furniture and other infrastructural amenities to the schools, among others.
“The implementation of innovative assessment strategies which transcend traditional methods, focuses on authentic and holistic evaluation of student learning outcomes, skills, and competencies”, he said.
The Commissioner charged teachers to transit from the ancient style of teaching and embrace modern methodologies for professional, effective and efficient impartation to students, in order to have a technologically-driven society.
Earlier, the Dean, Faculty of Education, University of Lagos, Prof. Oladipo Adebayo, said the Conference aimed at engaging Deans of Education in meaningful dialogue, sharing best practices and fostering collaboration, that would benefit the students and future generations, urging participants to explore the new ways of imparting knowledge to enhance the teaching and learning process.
